San Francisco-based startup Fin wants to replace your digital assistant. The Horned Japanese Female College Student: Pleasure Share Housecompany has built an artificially intelligent app that functions on voice commands alone and learns your habits over time.
Fin is essentially a new iOS app that can accomplish all the tasks a human personal assistant would, according to the company. Upon request, the app can schedule plans with friends, pay your bills, search restaurants in your area, remind you of events on your calendar, and more.
SEE ALSO: Sony's robot dog is back and better than everBut what differentiates Fin from Alexa, Siri, and the other voice assistants you may already be using is its ability to learn your habits. "We have an internal principle: 'AI' means 'Always Improving,'" wrote Andrew Kortina, Fin's cofounder, in a blog post.
Much like the futuristic personal assistants in the movie Her, Fin learns from your preferences over time. It can remember your work schedule, favorite cafe, any allergies you have, recurring purchases, credit card information, and more. When Fin doesn't know how to complete a new request, human teams in San Francisco and Phoenix teach it the most efficient way to execute a new command.
Fin also learns on a macro level: When it learns of a new restaurant or service from one user, it applies that knowledge to the requests of all users going forward — much like the other major digital assistants on the market.
But will the human element -- the programmers -- ever be removed? "Our mission is not automation for its own sake," Fin's founders wrote in a blog post. "Our guiding principle is to provide the best experience."
Fin did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
You can sign up for Fin on the company's website, but get your wallet ready: it's a minimum of $120 per month, and approximately $1 per minute that Fin spends completing your requests after that. Still, that's certainly less than you'd pay for a human personal assistant, so if you think you need a helper, consider this artificial one.
