In a not so shocking turn of events,Uncut Archives it turns out being popular on social media really helps you out if you're an actor looking to book gigs.

That, and a knack for acting, at least helped Game of Thronesstar Sophie Turner land her roles. In a new interview with Porter Magazine, the actress disclosed that her large following has helped the decision process in her favor when auditioning for new projects, and discusses how that's the new normal in the industry.

"A lot of what I have achieved is about timing and luck, but it is also, and I hate to say it, about a big social-media following," she told Porter, according to The Telegraph.

"I auditioned for a project and it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job. It’s not right, but it is part of the movie industry now," she said. Turner has over 5 million followers on Instagram, 1.3 million on Twitter, and a bit over 2 million on Facebook.

In the interview, Turner also discussed her social media use, suggesting that she treated it too personally at times despite her growing personal brand.

"I was a 15-year-old girl writing rash political stuff that would get a negative reaction and my team would tell me to take it down," she told Porter. "Now I am learning to keep my mouth shut."
