Tencent announced on Asian Dramas ArchivesTuesday that the early access test server for the action mobile game Honor of Kings: Breaking Dawn will be taken offline on Dec. 6 due to product adjustments. The Breaking Dawn project was first unveiled in 2020, with the official release expected to launch in January next year. However, according to the company’s statement on the Chinese social platform Weibo, all in-game purchases made during the testing period will be refunded. Players who participated in the early access test (since May 10, 2024) will also receive a gift pack along with their refunds. The sudden adjustment may be related to an internal meeting where executives decided to cut losses after determining that the investment in Breaking Dawn could have funded two or three Black Myth: Wukong projects. An internal source told the local media outlet Phoenix Tech that the return on investment was deemed unsatisfactory. [Phoenix Tech, in Chinese]
