India is already the second largest internet and smartphone market. More than 260 million people in the country have a smartphone, according to research firm Counterpoint, which also reckons that almost 94 percent of all smartphones shipped in the country run on Android.
With more than a billion people in the country, the vast majority is yet to come online and use a smartphone. App Annie believes the same. "India’s phenomenal progress over the past two years is even more impressive when considering its potential for further gains," it suggests app developers.
In its findings, App Annie notes that gaming apps and services are driving the majority of app store revenue. Shopping apps also gained momentum, and video streaming services are quickly winning new customers.
